Doctor Octopus, often shortened to Doc Ock, is a prominent villain in the Spider-Man mythos. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, he first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #3 (July 1963).
Otto Octavius was a brilliant, but arrogant, nuclear physicist. An accident during an experiment fusing his arms with robotic tentacles permanently bonded the harness to his body, and his brain was affected, turning him to a life of crime. The tentacles are controlled mentally, granting him incredible strength and dexterity.
Doc Ock is one of Spider-Man's most dangerous and recurring foes, leading villainous teams like the Sinister Six. He has proven to be a formidable and persistent threat.
